Is Reading about Photography Slowing You Down?
How to know when to stop reading and start taking action?
Hello Friends,
First and foremost, to all new subscribers to this newsletter, a personal thank you and welcome!
In this week’s newsletter, you’ll find my latest thinking on where do we draw the line between learning new things and taking action. The general idea of the article is that while reading and doing research for your next project is great and very much necessary, there is a point when additional reading provides less value. This is when action needs to take place, this is when we need to put what we’ve learned into practice. Go out and try new things. You can read more about it here:

Furthermore, each week I like to share inspiration from across the vast reaches of the internet, so here goes:
One of my favorite street photographers is Phil Penmen from New York. I’ve watched videos with him, listened to him speak on podcasts, and also follow him intensely on Instagram, always finding new pieces of inspiration, information, and advice. The work he produces is engaging, pulling you in to explore more of what’s in the frame. His style is full of deep shadows, with perfectly exposed highlights, mostly black and white, somewhere on the edge of a documentary, portraiture, and mysterious street silhouettes.
The topic of originality in photography’s always a much-discussed issue. We’ve all got original personalities with different backgrounds, knowledge, education, identities, or beliefs, yet often our work, specifically in photography, is imitation-based. Read this post to find out how can we cultivate that original approach to our work.

Apart from sharing some words, I’ve always felt we should share the work of others, to create supportive communities. To do my part, here are some of the nicest images I came across last week on Instagram and their authors, along with their profiles.
